Packing for a trip abroad can be a super tedious process. After all the time and effort that goes into making sure you have enough “going out” outfits and Netflix downloads, a few crucial toiletries may get left behind. The first time I studied abroad, I unpacked everything to realize that I wouldn’t have any edge control for a whole month. In honor of the jetsetting black women everywhere, here are some tips to keep you confident in your crown while you’re away from home:

Protective Styles

A low maintenance, protective styles are life savers! Whether you’ll be gone for 3 months or a 3-day weekend, wearing wigs, braids, mini-twists, and flat twists are great ways to preserve your hair while you explore your new surroundings.

Shopping Online

Larger cities with substantial Black populations may have some of your go-to products, but if that’s not the case you can always see if you can get them delivered. Although, shipping may be a little bit pricier than usual.

Black Hair Abroad Packing Lists

If you’re anything like me, you probably use a travel checklist to manage the logistics of your trip no matter how many times you’ve been abroad. Better safe than sorry, right? The same goes with your hair! The natural hair community is HUGE and there are black hair travel checklists that can cater to your needs.
